Who is up for election this year?

Mayor

The Mayor is the elected executive leader of Minneapolis, serving a 4-year term. The Mayor works in collaboration with the City Council to shape and implement city policies, propose the annual budget, and has the power to approve or veto council decisions. They also serve as the public face of the city, advocating for Minneapolis at the regional, state, and federal levels.

City Council

The City Council is the legislative body of Minneapolis, consisting of 13 members, each representing one of the city's wards. Council Members are responsible for passing ordinances, approving the city budget, overseeing city departments, and shaping policy on housing, public safety, zoning, and more.

Park Board

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board governs the city's park system. It is composed of nine commissioners—six elected by district and three elected at-large. The Board oversees the maintenance, operation, and development of parks, recreation centers, and green spaces, ensuring access and equity across the city.

Board of Estimate and Taxation (BET)

This board plays a key role in the city’s financial oversight. It manages debt, sets the maximum property tax levy, and approves bonding and other fiscal matters. The Board ensures transparency and accountability in how public funds are raised and spent.

Dear neighbors,

What began as a community call has grown into an incredible honor — I am humbled and grateful to be on your ballot as a candidate for Park Board Commissioner here in District 5.

As an organizer, I have always believed in our collective power to make a difference in local elections. In a time marked by uncertainty and challenges, I want to encourage everyone to show up to the polls and make our voices heard.

We all deserve representatives who will stand with workers, youth, and our environment. I hope to earn your vote on November 4th.

In solidarity,

Kay Carvajal Moran
